A biopic on the life of Martin McGarland a young man from West Belfast who in the late 1980's is recruited by the British Police to spy against the IRA.
He works his way through the ranks while giving the British information and saving lives.
Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe) plays Martin whilst his contact Fergus is played by Ben Kingsley, complete with a wig.
This is a story that could be very compelling, but for the most part it was strangely uninvolving. The final act brought home some emotional impact, but that was possible due to the ability of Irish ballads to affect the emotions.
The end is a shocking reminder of what it sometimes costs to walk a narrower path, but due to the opening scene revealing a lot of what the ending was, the impact was dramatically reduced. This was possibly the worst decision by the makers.
An average movie, which missed an opportunity to confront us, like other films from this land and era have done.
Ben Kinsley = 22/54.
Rose McGowan = 08/20.
Video Ezy May New Releases = 7/32.
My rating = 6/10.
