American Violet. 2008. USA.

There is something bittersweet about watching this type of movie - it is the story of someone fighting injustice and in that it makes you angry and you bleed for the wrong done but when justice is given at the conclusion, you rejoice and it is heart felt.

That is when justice is given, it does not always happen, but in this case it is very satisfying.

The story here revolves around an African American mother of four being arrested in a police sweep for dealing drugs, despite not evidence and the word of one single mentally impaired informant.

She fights the charges after been given the horrible alternatives of plea bargain or jail for a long time.

Apparently in the backwards justice system of the USA pleading guilty in a plea bargain will mean not being able to vote, reduced welfare, not able to have public housing, no food stamps, and other associated terrible consequences.

This brave woman fought this racist, pig headed system and DA and won!

Justice was done and really those who were doing these things should hang their heads in shame.

This was a beautiful and moving movie with brilliant performances by the lead Nicole Beharie with strong support from the consistently good Will Patton and the great Alfre Woodard, it is also nice to see Charls S Dutton in a small role as the reverend.

A compelling movie that should be watched to examine justice and is recommended by this viewer.

New releases April - Video Ezy - 32/38.

My rating = 8/10.
