In the 1970's there was a genre of action movies with African American heroes, the genre was known as blacksploitation. Movies such as Cleopatra Jones, Shaft, Black Caesar, and Super Fly.
they were very popular with the black community, so here we are thirty five years after most of these movies were released and we have a part homage, part parody of these movies with Black Dynamite.
this is totally hilarious with over the top action scenes and dialogue. You really need to have seen a blacksploitation movie to enjoy it, but it is very, very amusing indeed.
It is also very dumb, but we knew that, and it does not hide its dumbness, in fact it relishes it! It also did not wear its welcome out, knowing we did not need a long movie, and at a little over eighty minutes was about the perfect length for this type of movie.
Journey man actor Mike Starr is in it, with a cast largely unknown to me, although Arsenio Hall does appear in it.
I thought it was a real hoot!
