One of those movies that is considered a classic, that you have never really seen.
Well I watched it, and it has stunning acting performances from Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, with good support from George Segal and Sandy Dennis.
The plot of the movie is all over one night, and is very stage play like, with a bitter aging couple fuelled by alcohol using a younger couple to express their grief, anger and anguish towards each other.
the movie is raw with emotion and seething with the undercurrents of grief, rage, loss and desperation.
Taylor and Burton's chemistry lights up the screen.
It is real and not real and you do genuinely care for the characters even when they are annoying and you do not understand them.
The devastating final scene is haunting and really grabs you by the throat as you suddenly understand the source of all the bitterness and the angst and you realise that living in an unreal fantasy world is a terrible way to live.
A brilliant movie!
