The directiorial debut of Drew Barrymore is quite auspicious and a real surprise.
Ellen Page, of Juno fame plays the lead role of teenage girl whose mother (Marcia Gay Harden) wants her to be a beauty queen but she secretly starts getting involved in Roller Derby.
Along the way there is issues of friendship, relationships and all sorts of other teen issues.
There are some great performances from Page and a supporting cast, Barrymore herself, Kristen Wiig, Juliette Lewis, and in a beautifully understated performance Daniel Stern.
A movie with a predictable story arc, but with such fun on the journey it is a great ride.
