Low expectations helped with this Carrey vehicle which was panned upon release and was Carrey's first significant movie box office failure.
The problem I think is firstly with the poster which make it look a lot more sinister than it is. There is no doubt some sinister moments in the movie but overall it is about someone wanting friendship and not knowing how to go about it the right way.
Carrey is OK a little over the top, but there is nothing abnormal in that. Broderick is fine as well, maybe miscast in this however.
Jack Black shows up in a smaller role, and if it was made today he would probably be in Broderick's role and Broderick in his.
There are a number of cameos including Eric Roberts, Andy Dick, George Segal, Owen Wilson, and Janene Garofalo.
Overall an average movie, nothing spectacular but better than I expected.
Jim Carrey = 21/31.
Eric Roberts = 14/100.
My rating = 6/10.
